Medical Benefits Scheme – Budget Changes

ESB Shared Services have issued a bulletin advising staff and pensioners of the changes arising from the December 2009 Budget. These are copied below for your convenience.

 Budget 2010 change
In 2010 the Treatment Benefit Scheme will be restricted to the Medical (e.g. hearing aid) and Surgical appliances scheme, free dental examinations and free eyesight examinations. Treatment started in 2009 but which will not be completed until after 1 January 2010 will be covered under existing arrangements, provided eligibility has been established before 31 December 2009.

 Dental Benefits:
From 1st. January 2010. ESB will refund the full cost of a dental examination, once a year to staff not eligible to claim under Social Welfare.
No refunds will be paid in respect of other dental treatments.

Optical/Hearing Benefits

From the 1st. January2010, ESB wiII refund the full cost of a sight test once a year to staff not eligible to claim under the Social Welfare Scheme.

Hearing Aid – 50% of cost up to €760.00 max. per aid.
Two Hearing Aids – 50% of cost up to a maximum €1,520.00 max.
Hearing Aid – repairs – 50% of cost up to a maximum €760 per aid
