As a member of HO Pensioners Assoc. (VS)I agree with Joe La Cumbre's approach. ESB have to step up to the mark now with upfront financial support for both Pension fund & Medical Prov. With Pensioner numbers growing and contributing staff nos declining rapidly there were always going to be problems with Pension fund meeting it's long term liabilities. This situation has been created as a direct result of ESB policy of reducing core staff nos and non-recruitment. The current equity market crisis has just brought the problems forward. ESB's financial health has never been better and it's time now for them to accept some responsibility, and to inject some financial stability into both Pension & Medical Prov funds. Neither serving staff or pensioners should be expected to shoulder responsibility for the current situation. Unions and pensioners associations should work together and give priority to protecting our hard won pension benefits.
